NO INSURANCE: NO EXCUSE
Police in Greater Manchester are extending their policy to seize uninsured motor vehicles to cover off- road type vehicles. The use of uninsured, untaxed off-road and on road motor vehicles particularly motorbikes, quads and mini motos is a serious concern to communities and it is illegal.
Chief Inspector Haydn Roberts, GMP Traffic Network Section says:
“the Police have now been given the power to seize these uninsured, untaxed machines and we will not hesitate to use these powers to rid our communities of this menace”.
GMP are seizing over 1300 uninsured, untaxed motor vehicles each month and unless you want your motor bike or car to be seized, make sure its complying with the law and you have a licence.
Councillor Paul Murphy, Vice-Chair Greater Manchester Police Authority is campaigning for an off-road vehicle registration scheme, in order to help combat nuisance caused by off road vehicles. He fully supports GMP’s policy and said,
“people who think that they can ride these potentially lethal machines in any manner and on any road, pavement or public place will have their bikes seized. They often have no insurance so can cause accidents and injuries and innocent victims have limited recourse to compensation”
So beware, as even pushing you bike on the pavement could result in it being seized and then crushed within seven days, unless you can provide a certificate of insurance.
