Stop Off-Road Nuisance Campaign

This website has been set up for the residents of Greater Manchester to offer advice and a way of reporting off-road nuisance directly to us.

The issue of off-road motorcycle nuisance has been identified as an area of public concern via public consultation mechanisms, and GMPA identified that a registration scheme would be a useful tool to help combat the growing problem of anti-social behaviour related to the illegal use of off-road motorcycles.

The police authority believes that, as it is a strategic organisation, it can adopt the role in relation to off-road nuisance as campaigner for an off-road registration scheme. The police authority should also be able to fulfil a role of bringing partners together to enable a joined-up approach to problem solving and also to engage with the public about the issue.

GMPA WELCOMES OFF-ROAD BIKE BILL SUCCESS

The Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA), the governing body for Greater Manchester Police, today congratulated Manchester MP, Graham Stringer on the success of the second reading of his Private Members Bill on the mandatory and retrospective off-road registration scheme.   The Authority is now urging local people to voice their support for the bill by writing to their MPs.

When the bill was read in the House of Commons on Friday 2 March there was cross party support with a total of 116 MPs voting for it and only 19 against.  It will now go to committee stage where details of the bill will be debated.

Along with GMPA, Graham Stringer MP wants all off-road bikes including go-peds, mini-motos, petrol scooters and quad bikes to be registered with the DVLA and carry a visible registration number.
